Tortilla Flat takes itself less seriously than other works by Steinbeck. It was charming and witty. Although it wasn't trying to convey a deep message it was very loving and empathetic towards its wide cast of lower class characters. I laughed out loud several times listening to this audiobook. It gets a bit meandering at times and often starts to lose my interest but overall I couldn't wait to find out what happens next to our knights of the round table.
The narrator of this audiobook did a wonderful job, he really understood the attitude with which so many of the tongue in cheek parts should be read.
